Programs such as the AFDC, food stamps, and head start are federal assistance programs to needy residents of the USA. AFDC also known as Aid to Families with Dependent Children took effect in 1935 to provide financial assistance to children whose families had low or no income.   Food Stamp Program now referred to as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).    provides food-purchasing assistance for low income or jobless residents of the country.   Head Start thru the U.S, Department of Health and Human Services,  provides comprehensive health, nutrition, early childhood education and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.
