Discovery of Venus
Venus has been known since pre-historic times. It was discovered by a roman scientist named Galileo in 1610. Venus is the roman form of Aphrodite. It was named after the god of beauty, because Venus is the closest planet to earth, so it is very bright and beautiful. In 1761 a Russian polymath Mikhail Lomonosov discovered the atmosphere of Venus.  It was also studied by by German astronomer Johann Schroter in 1970. It is also known as morning star or evening star, because it is visible either early in the evening after sunset or early in the morning just before sunrise.
