Ernest Hemingway represented this theme of disillusionment in his short story "In Another Country" through the character of the army major. The major’s character painted a bleak, disillusioned picture of war, through which there was no positive outcome, no matter what side won or lost. War represented loss to the major, and not even the technological advancements that helped heal serious wounds could convince the major otherwise.
