"Atticus was right. One time he said you never really know a man until you stand in his shoes and walk around in them. Just standing on the Radley front porch was enough." What does this quote mean?

I am currently reading To Kill A Mocking Bird in my English class. This quote is about being able to empathize with other human beings no matter what the rumours around town may be. This quote means that even if it is just for a split second, you might see into a person's life. You finally have some sort of clue as to who that person is and why they are the way they are.
