They were both located in India. Mauryan was 321 to 180 BCE and Gupta was 320-550 CE. Religions were both Hinduism, but in mauryan empire ashoka brings in Buddhism, religious toleration. Mauryan had rock and pillar edicts and Gupta had the golden age where great things were happening. They both had trade and Gupta traded silk, cotton, and elephants. Mauryan had social stratification and Gupta had a powerful military. Both had a patriarchal society.
