1.) Overpopulation: Where they were coming from was extremely crowded, whereas America was a new and vast country.

2.) Religious persecution: The mistreatment of people based on religious beliefs. People coming to America wanted religious freedom.

3.) Poverty: This means being extremely poor. Being poor can result in lack of food, shelter, clothing etc. In America there were new job opportunities and such people could get a new start with a job that may have paid at least a little more. Therefore, they could live a little better.
